Clarington, Ontario – It’s time to get moving and make it count – this June, the Municipality of Clarington is competing in the ParticipACTION Community Better Challenge. This is a national contest, which encourages Canadians to get active and pits municipalities against one another for a chance to win $100,000 for local initiatives and programs promoting activity and fitness.
“There’s no time like the present. Let’s get moving. Together we can track our active or ‘move’ minutes and support Clarington in our quest to win the money. This is a large sum that would help support our programs and facilities to enhance your recreational experience,” said Clarington Mayor Adrian Foster.
So how does it work? We’re asking Clarington residents to help us win the prize by tracking their daily activity or ‘move’ minutes throughout June to add to our overall Municipal total. Your move minutes include any light or incidental physical activity, such as running, walking, hiking, wheeling or jogging, yoga, pilates, or stretching, gardening, yard work, vacuuming, cleaning, and so much more. Track your activity and move minutes by creating a ParticipACTION account using your Clarington postal code. You can also track by downloading the ParticipACTION app in the Google Play Store for Android, App Store for iOS, or by creating an online account beginning June 1. Visit our website for more ideas on how to get moving and details on how to register to help us win the grand prize, www.clarington.net/ClaringtonMoves.
“This is a great initiative to build community spirit and head outdoors for some safe activity this June. We can do this, Clarington. Let’s get moving,” added Mayor Foster.
We want to make this a real movement – pun intended. Help inspire others to get involved by posting messages and videos on your social media accounts. Tag Clarington on Facebook and Twitter using #ClaringtonMovesFor100K. We will share your messages and posts.
