The role of the Clarington Anti-Black Racism Advisory Committee (ABRAC) is to provide advice to Council on issues related to anti-Black racism in Clarington.
ABRAC Members are responsible to provide strategic advice, feedback, and insight to Council about the needs of the Black community, including businesses in Clarington, with a lens to enhance access and inclusion for the Black community, contribute to the dismantling of anti-Black racism, and support the unique needs of diverse Black communities, in Clarington.
Clarington Anti-Black Racism Advisory Committee Terms of Reference
The Committee shall be comprised of the following 12 voting members, appointed by Council:
Membership will be sought on the basis of broad interest, understanding, and commitment to identifying and addressing anti-Black racism in the Municipality. Additional qualifications include:
Membership shall run concurrent with the term of Council (4 years) or until their successor is appointed.
The Committee meets a minimum of six times per year and establishes a meeting schedule that includes the time and place for meetings.
These are voluntary positions.
There is one youth member vacancy and two organizational representative vacancies with terms ending December 31, 2026. To apply, fill out the Appointments to Boards and Committees Application Form by April 17, 2025.
