Proclamations

Proclamations are public announcements or declarations, often issued to organizations in the format of a ceremonial document, which recognizes the efforts and contributions of groups or individuals. The Mayor receives requests for formal proclamations from groups or organizations wishing to raise awareness or highlight an upcoming event or issue. The Mayor has the authority to designate a specific day, week or month to help raise awareness of these events, arts and cultural celebrations, charitable fundraising or public awareness campaigns that are significant to the Municipality of Clarington.

The Mayor will not issue proclamations for:

Matters of political controversy, religious beliefs or individual conviction
Events or organizations with no direct relationship to the Municipality of Clarington
Campaigns or events contrary to law, Municipal policies or by-laws
Campaigns intended for profit-making purposes

An organization does not have exclusive rights to the day, week or month of their proclamation.

To submit your request, fill out the Flag Raising and Proclamation Request Form at least three weeks prior to the desired proclamation period.

Marigold Hospice Care Awareness Day - January 29, 2025

Clarington has proclaimed January 29, 2025, as Marigold Hospice Awareness Day to promote both the need and to build awareness of hospice care.

211 Day - February 11, 2025

Clarington has proclaimed February 11, 2025, as 211 Day. The day raises awareness about 211 services. The Municipal Administrative Centre (Town Hall) will be lit red in celebration.

Amyloidosis Awareness Month - March 2025

Clarington has proclaimed March 2025 as Amyloidosis Awareness Month. Amyloidosis is a rare disorder that is characterized by a buildup of abnormal amyloid deposits in the body. Early diagnosis is the key to managing this disease.

Neurodiversity Awareness Month - April 2025

Clarington has proclaimed April 2025 as Neurodiversity Awareness Month. The month raises awareness and celebrates the strengths of neurodivergent people.

In recognition, we will raise the Neurodiversity Infinity Pride flag at a flag raising scheduled on April 2 at 3:30 p.m. at Veterans' Square outside the Municipal Administrative Centre.

World Autism Day - April 2, 2025

Clarington has proclaimed April 2, 2025, as World Autism Day. The day aims to raise awareness and promote acceptance and appreciation of autistic people and their contributions to society.

In recognition, we will raise the Neurodiversity Infinity Pride flag at a flag raising scheduled on April 2 at 3:30 p.m. at Veterans' Square outside the Municipal Administrative Centre.

National Dental Hygienists Week - April 4 to 10, 2025

Clarington has proclaimed April 4 to 10, 2025, as National Dental Hygienists Week. The week highlights the importance of maintaining good oral health practices while helping Canadians understand the vital role dental hygienists play in the health care system.

The Municipal Administrative Centre will be lit purple in celebration.

Parental Alienation Recognition Day - April 25, 2025

Clarington has proclaimed April 25, 2025, as Parental Alienation Recognition Day. The day aims to increase awareness of parental alienation and highlight the benefits of shared parenting.

World Maternal Mental Health Day - May 7, 2025

Mayor Adrian Foster has proclaimed May 7, 2025, as World Maternal Mental Health Day. The day aims to support mothers and families and build stronger communities. Increasing awareness will drive social change with the goal toward improving the quality of care for women experiencing all types of perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, and reducing the stigma of maternal mental illness.

The Municipal Administrative Centre (Town Hall) will be lit green in recognition.

Fibromyalgia Awareness Day - May 12, 2025

Clarington has proclaimed May 12, 2025, as Fibromyalgia Awareness Day. Town Hall (40 Temperance Street, Bowmanville) will be lit purple in recognition of the day.

CDKL5 Awareness Month - June 2025

Clarington has proclaimed June 2025 as CDKL5 Awareness Month. Children born with CDKL5 Deficiency Disorder experience a variety of developmental and neurological symptoms. The month promotes educations, advocacy and unity within the community.

Elder Abuse Awareness Day - June 13, 2025

Mayor Adrian Foster has proclaimed June 13, 2025, as Elder Abuse Awareness Day. The day aims to encourage all residents to promote the rights of older adults, and to recognize and celebrate seniors and their ongoing contributions to the success and vitality of our community.

The World Elder Abuse Awareness Day flag will be raised at the Municipal Administrative Centre on Friday, June 13, 2025.

Sickle Cell Awareness Day - June 19, 2025

Mayor Adrian Foster has proclaimed June 19, 2025, as Sickle Cell Awareness Day. The day aims to raise awareness and foster a sense of belonging and support for those living with the disease. Through education and awareness programs, the Sickle Cell Awareness Group of Ontario is doing its part to reduce stigma and discrimination faced by families, children, youth and adults living with Sickle Cell Disease.

Christian Heritage Month - December 2025

Clarington has proclaimed December 2025 as Christian Heritage Month. The month honours and celebrates the significant contributions of Christians to our community.
