Council reviews reports from its two standing committees: the General Government Committee and the Planning and Development Committee. Both committees are made up of all the members of council.
The main purpose of the committees is to consider reports from all departments and make recommendations to Council. The General Government Committee debates matters related to services provided by Public Works, Emergency and Fire Services, Community Services (including Tourism), Legislative Services (including By-law Enforcement, Animal Services, Legal and Human Resources), Financial Services (including Purchasing and Information Technology), and Office of the CAO (including Communications).
The Planning and Development Committee reviews matters regarding planning and development in the community. The committee also hosts Public Meetings mandated under the Planning Act. This is a chance to hear from community members who may have concerns, questions or other comments on a variety of planning and development applications that impact their neighbourhoods. The agenda for the meetings also includes presentations and external delegations.
Each member of Council is appointed as a Departmental Liaison and chairs their department's section of the meeting.
