Parent and Child Skate (Children seven years and younger) |
A drop-in recreational skate for parents and guardians with children seven years of age and under.

Family Stick and Puck |
Family Stick and Puck is a drop-in recreational skate for parents and guardians to help children practice and develop skating, stick handling and passing skills in a non-competitive environment.
Family Stick and Puck is available in two age categories:
- Children aged seven and under
- Children aged eight to 12

Leisure Skate |
Our drop-in recreational skate is for people of all ages.

Adult Leisure Skate |
Adult Leisure Skate is a drop-in recreational skate for adults 18 years and older. |
Shinny Hockey |
Shinny Hockey is a non-competitive, non-contact, informal drop-in hockey program.
Shinny Hockey is available in five program categories. Please check the drop-in skating schedule to ensure you attend the appropriate shinny program for you.
- 16+ adult co-ed
- 55+ co-ed
- 65+ co-ed
- 16+ adult women
- Youth Shinny
Youth Shinny is offered during school holidays when staffing and ice availability allow. Skating staff will create teams based on skill, time shifts so everyone gets a turn, and encourage team play. In addition to full hockey equipment, a full face mask/cage is required for all drop-in Youth Shinny participants. Youth Shinny is offered for three age groups:
- Children aged six to nine
- Children aged 10 to 12
- Teens aged 13 to 15

Adapted Skate |
Adapted Skate is a drop-in recreational skate open to people with physical or developmental disabilities and their families, caregivers, or support workers. The caregiver/support worker may attend free of charge (one support worker per individual with a disability). Skate admission standards apply.

Ticket Ice
|
Ticket Ice is our pay-as-you-go figure skating drop-in program for Skate Canada members. A Skate Canada coach must accompany skaters; admission is free for coaches.

Please follow the rules to ensure everyone has a safe and enjoyable skating experience.
General rules

Respect staff at all times.

When the whistle sounds, listen and follow instructions.

Immediately report any accidents or injuries to staff.

CSA-approved hockey helmets are strongly recommended for all skaters.

CSA-approved hockey helmets are mandatory for children five years of age or younger. Bicycle, ski, and snow sport helmets are not a substitute for a CSA-certified hockey helmet for children under five years of age.

Only people wearing skates are allowed on the ice.

Skate at a sensible and safe speed in the same direction as other skaters; backward skating is not allowed.

The middle of the ice surface is available for children and less confident skaters.

Children under eight years of age must be supervised by someone 14 years of age or older.
The following activities/equipment are not allowed on the ice:
- Carrying children (including baby carriers)
- Hockey pucks and sticks
- Headphones, cell phones or hand-held electronics
- Food or drink
- Rough play, speed and figure skating, and multiplayer games (tag/races)
- Foul language or inappropriate behaviour
Wheelchairs, strollers and skating aids
- Wheelchairs, adaptive strollers, and pushchairs with clean wheels are allowed on the ice during public skates and must be accompanied by a responsible person who is wearing skates.
- CSA-approved hockey helmets are required for wheelchair users five years of age or younger.
- Strollers are not allowed on the ice during public skates.
- Municipal skate aids are not provided during drop-in skating programs. Participants who require skating assistance may bring an approved skate aid for their personal use. Strollers, chairs and homemade devices are not allowed as skate aids. Please speak with on-site staff if you have questions about approved skate aids.

Parent and Child Skate |

- Parent or guardian must be 18 years of age or older, and child must be seven years of age or younger.
- No older siblings or other family members allowed on the ice.
- No sticks or pucks are allowed during Parent and Child Skate.
- Municipal skate aids are not provided during drop-in skating programs. Participants who require skating assistance may bring an approved skate aid for their personal use. Strollers, chairs, and homemade devices are not allowed as skate aids. Please speak with on-site staff if you have questions about approved skate aids.
- Strollers are allowed on the ice if the wheels are clean and the child is secure in the stroller.
- This activity is not directly supervised. Report any concerns to staff or the front desk.

Family Stick and Puck |
- Parents/guardians must accompany their children on the ice, wearing skates and a CSA-certified hockey helmet.
- A CSA-certified hockey helmet with an attached face mask/cage is required for children.
- Children must have a hockey stick.
- Hockey nets are provided.
- Strollers are not allowed on the ice during Family Stick and Puck.

Shinny Hockey |
Follow the rules below to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all skaters.

CSA-approved helmets and full equipment are mandatory for all players and goalies. Full facial mask protection/cage is required for all Youth Shinny age groups.

Equipment rentals are not available.
- Goalies in full equipment play for free.
- Shinny is not intended for organized teams. Referees are not provided.
- Do not sit on the boards.

No body-checking is allowed.

Please keep the spirit of the game enjoyable, and remember it is only for fun.

Ticket Ice |
- To attend this program, you must be a figure skater and a member of Skate Canada.
- A Skate Canada coach must be present.
- Admission is free for Skate Canada coaches accompanying their skaters.
- Proof of current Skate Canada membership may be required for skaters and coaches.

Skating cancellations
From time to time, skating sessions will be cancelled due to special events or service disruptions. We will list skating cancellations on our Service Disruptions page, as soon as we know of the disruption.

Group Membership Rates: Get a group discount of 20 per cent if three or more family members live in the same household. Proof of address required. Discount eligible at time of sale only; all family members must sign up at the same time. Cannot combine with the student discount.

Adult: Anyone between the ages of 18 and 54.

Outdoor Refrigerated Skating Rinks
Clarington is adding refrigerated outdoor skating rinks across Clarington!
Outdoor skating rinks will provide residents of all ages with an opportunity to enjoy leisure skating on a surface that stays consistently frozen despite fluctuations in the weather, and for longer periods during the winter months. At other times of the year, the rinks will be used for a variety of leisure activities such as outdoor markets, community events, recreational sports and other programming.
Clarington’s first outdoor skating rink is ready for residents to enjoy this holiday season
The rink features a refrigerated ice surface bordered by a rubber skate mat, ample lighting for evening use, covered and uncovered chairs and benches, two gas fire pits and a warming room.
Weather permitting, holiday hours of operation will be:
- December 24, 25 and 26, 2024: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- December 27 - 30, 2024: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- December 31 - January 1, 2025: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Regular hours: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. (starting January 2, 2025)
We will celebrate the grand opening with the community at the Mayor’s Levee on Sunday, January 12, 2025, from 12 to 3 p.m.
Planning to try the new outdoor skating rink?
- C.S.A.-approved hockey helmets are strongly recommended for all skaters.
- Children under six must wear a C.S.A.-approved hockey helmet.
- Strollers are not allowed on the ice.
- Wheelchairs may be used on the ice and must be accompanied by a responsible person wearing skates.
- Only Municipality of Clarington skating aids are permitted on the ice.
- Children under eight must be supervised by someone 14 or older.
