2023 Mayor’s Golf Classic raises close to $33,000 for Marigold Hospice Care
Council presented proceeds from the 2023 Mayor’s Golf Classic to Marigold Hospice Care to help support construction and development of the site, which is anticipated to start in spring 2024. Members of the Marigold Hospice Care board were in attendance to receive the ceremonial cheque.
This donation is in addition to the $1.25 million in grant funding for the facility that was included in the 2024-27 Budget. The Municipality has been a strong supporter of the hospice, donating surplus land on Cobbledick Road in Newcastle for the building and giving a grant to offset development charges.
Clarington receives public feedback on the Bowmanville East and Bowmanville West Secondary Plans
Planning and Infrastructure Services staff presented two proposed Secondary Plans for Bowmanville and received questions and comments from Council and members of the public.
The Bowmanville East plan lays out a framework to create a unique community that celebrates its heritage while accommodating opportunities for responsible growth. The Plan area includes the historic downtown, Bowmanville Hospital, Bowmanville Mall and former Goodyear lands. It also features a potential medical campus to support the Bowmanville Hospital and mixed-use development opportunities along King Street East. The area will be able to accommodate approximately 6,000 housing units and 10,500 people.
The Bowmanville West plan will transform a low-density, retail commercial shopping hub into a mixed-use, transit-oriented community—including the future Bowmanville GO Station. It will feature active public spaces, retail and services, a variety of housing types, and a connected network of parks, greenspaces, and community amenities. The area will be able to accommodate approximately 9,600 housing units and 14,700 people.
Staff will incorporate the comments received into the Secondary Plans and present recommendations to Council in the spring.
Kirby United Church heritage building to receive repairs
The Kirby United Church, built around 1880, is a focal point for the community of Kirby and a designated heritage building. The church will be getting new lancet windows and window frames on the main floor, which have deteriorated and broken. The replacement windows and frames will be similar in style to the original Gothic Revival-style ones.
