Clarington, Ontario – Clarington is helping to support the educational and career aspirations of youth who champion diversity and inclusion in the community through a new Diversity Leadership Bursary.
The bursary provides $1,500 to an eligible graduating high-school student involved in activities and initiatives that create positive change related to diversity, inclusion, anti-racism, and accessibility in Clarington.
“In Clarington, our growing diversity is a source of strength for our community. We are fortunate to have many young leaders contributing to positive change in Clarington. I am proud to see the launch of the Diversity Leadership Bursary. This will support local students in advancing their education while helping to shape a more welcoming and inclusive community for us all in the future,” said Clarington Mayor Adrian Foster.
Applications open on May 1, 2024, and close on June 7, 2024. Learn more about application requirements and apply online at www.clarington.net/DiversityBursary.
“The Diversity Advisory Committee is thrilled to launch the Diversity Leadership Bursary for local Clarington high school students. The goal of the bursary is to encourage and celebrate young community leaders by alleviating some of the financial barriers associated with post-secondary education. We look forward to reviewing the applications and selecting a recipient after applications close on June 7,” said Tenzin Shomar, Chair of Clarington’s Diversity Advisory Committee.
The bursary is made available on behalf of Clarington’s Diversity Advisory Committee, an advisory body of Clarington residents that provides guidance and recommendations to Council and Municipal staff on issues related to diversity in the community. It is an action item of Clarington’s 2024-27 Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility (IDEA) Strategy. Learn more at www.clarington.net/IDEAStrategy.
