Clarington is planning to construct the third and final extension of the Soper Creek Trail this fall (pending Council approval). The proposed extension will provide approximately 650 metres of additional trail and complete the Soper Creek Trail to Mearns Avenue. Currently, the trail ends just east of Sprucewood Crescent and north of Concession Street East in Bowmanville.
The Municipality intends to construct the trail to match the existing three-metre-wide paved asphalt trail surface and add amenities such as benches and waste receptacles. The trail will follow the natural lay of the land with the goal of maintaining as much existing mature vegetation and natural creek valley landscape as possible while maintaining a safe setback from the Soper Creek watercourse.
