Clarington, Ontario – As we mark National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women, Clarington Mayor Adrian Foster has issued the following statement.
“National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women is a day to remember all who have experienced gender-based violence and to mourn those we have lost to it.
Today, we remember the young women killed and injured in the violent act of misogyny that took place on December 6, 1989, at École Polytechnique Montreal. In Canada and around the world, women, girls, and gender-diverse people still face a very real threat of violence.
Hatred, misogyny, and gender-based violence have no place in Clarington. We stand with the survivors and with those affected by gender-based violence. We are committed to creating a community that is safe for everyone.”
