Clarington, Ontario —To mark Transgender Day of Visibility, Clarington Mayor Adrian Foster has issued the following statement.
“Each year on March 31, we mark Transgender Day of Visibility, a celebration of the joy and resilience of transgender, Two-Spirit, and non-binary people across the world. We stand with them in honouring their strength and their unbreakable spirit.
As we strive to increase the visibility of trans people and their achievements, we must also pledge to fight against transphobia and all forms of gender-based discrimination and violence. There is still much work ahead of us. We must all come together to foster a more equitable and inclusive community for all Clarington and Durham Region residents.
Creating a safe space for gender-diverse people to live authentically and to share their own stories can challenge the stigma around trans identities and foster a deeper understanding of trans experiences. Today and every day, Clarington is committed to amplifying trans voices, supporting trans communities, and creating a safe and more equitable future.”
