Clarington, Ontario – As we mark International Day to Combat Islamophobia, Clarington Mayor Adrian Foster has issued the following statement:
“Today, during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, we mark International Day to Combat Islamophobia. We remember all the people around the world who have been victims of intolerance and religious hatred. In our community and country, prejudice and religious hatred is never acceptable.
We need to embrace every opportunity to promote knowledge and understanding about different faiths. The more we learn about each other's religions and beliefs, the less space we give to ignorance, fear and hatred.
Acceptance and respect are needed now more than ever. There is no room for prejudice in Clarington, where our shared values of equity, diversity, and inclusiveness are paramount to create a safe and welcoming place for all.”
