Statement from Mayor Adrian Foster on next step to extend GO service

"We were delighted to hear that the Ontario government has announced that a contract has been awarded to advance planning to extend the GO train service to Bowmanville.  

The announcement demonstrates what can be accomplished when different levels of government work together. I want to thank the Ontario government for their determination to complete the Bowmanville GO extension and strengthen the economic potential of Clarington and Durham Region.  

The contract marks an important milestone and is another recent and tangible step the Province has taken in bringing the GO train to Clarington.

I have to thank and recognize the local group that laid the foundation in presenting the business case and advocating for the extension several years ago. Without the efforts of Clarington’s staff, the staff at Oshawa and the Region of Durham and the Clarington Board of Trade, the Greater Oshawa Chamber of Commerce, and the leadership at Durham College, we would not be here today.    

Thanks again to the Ontario Government for their commitment to better transit options for our residents and bettering our quality of life. I am confident this project is on the right track."
