Clarington, Ontario – As we mark International Women’s Day, Clarington Mayor Adrian Foster has issued the following statement.
“Today, we celebrate women and honour those who inspire us, lead us, and make a difference in our community. As we celebrate International Women's Day, I want to recognize the achievements and contributions of women in Clarington and around the world. Clarington is proud to support women's empowerment and leadership in all sectors of life. We continue working to create a culture of respect and inclusion where everyone can thrive regardless of their gender identity or expression.
We also acknowledge that there are gendered challenges and barriers that many women still face. We are committed to addressing gender-based violence. Words are not enough, and Clarington is taking action to support victims of intimate partner violence in our community. I’m very proud that we are launching these initiatives, which could save lives.
We cannot celebrate International Women's Day without also highlighting the need for greater progress on economic and social gender quality. This day reminds us that we all have a role to play in creating a more equitable and inclusive community. Together, we can create a better future for everyone.”
