Region and local partners pleased to see GO East Extension moving forward

Whitby, Ontario – The following statement is being issued on behalf of John Henry, Regional Chair and Chief Executive Officer for The Regional Municipality of Durham:

“Today’s announcement about the GO East Extension brings us one step closer to seeing shovels in the ground; to positively impacting people’s lives. It also marks the path for driving economic opportunities and dynamic transit-oriented communities for decades to come.

Two-way, all-day service to Bowmanville—which previously stopped in Oshawa—will help transform and connect communities. It’s a strong rail option that complements our existing integrated and active transportation network.

It’s also an excellent example of partnerships in motion. We look forward to continuing to work together with mayors Carter and Foster toward this great opportunity for our residents and businesses. When we set the goal of improving the quality of life for residents, while spurring significant investment, we can create innovative solutions that benefit our growing community, for generations to come.”
