Clarington, Ontario – The Clarington Animal Shelter has received a generous $9,000 donation from DocuPet’s Safe&Happy Fund, thanks to community members who participated in their innovative licensing program.
This donation will support local animals in need, aiding in sheltering, veterinary care and animal adoption services. In 2024, the Clarington Animal Shelter received nearly 500 animals into its care, demonstrating the vital role of animal welfare initiatives.
“We care about the wellbeing of all who live in Clarington – including pets who are already part of a family and animals seeking their forever homes. Donations like this make life better for animals who need our help,” said Clarington Mayor Adrian Foster. “We’re pleased to offer residents a simple way to ID their pets and contribute to the community.”
DocuPet’s Safe&Happy Fund collects automatic donations from designer licence tag purchases and from pet owners who choose to donate directly. DocuPet became the Municipality of Clarington’s official pet licensing partner in 2015.
All proceeds from pet licensing support the shelter’s operations. When residents ensure their pets have valid licences, lost pets can return home faster. This allows more resources to be dedicated to other essential services offered by the shelter.
“We are very proud of the work we have done to date in partnership with the Municipality of Clarington and are excited to make a donation that will further impact the community,” said Grant Goodwin, DocuPet’s CEO. “Pets wearing DocuPet tags spend little to no time in the shelter versus unlicensed pets, and for those pets that do need care and support, licence fees help keep the shelter running. We thank residents for being a key part of the solution and look forward to providing continued care and support to all animals in need.”
All pet owners in the Municipality of Clarington are required to license them each year to ensure the health and safety of residents and their pets per the Responsible Pet Owners By-law. To learn more and register for pet licences, visit clarington.docupet.com.
