New electric vehicle chargers in Clarington

Clarington, Ontario – New electric vehicle chargers are available at municipal facilities across Clarington. It’s part of the Municipality’s journey to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 under its Corporate Climate Action Plan.

Level 2 chargers are now available for public use at the Orono Library. Chargers for fleet use were also added to Fire Station #1 in Bowmanville and Fire Station #4 in Courtice. The new locations targeted workplaces to support the transition to electric light-duty fleets, and expand public access to charging infrastructure. They were partly funded by the federal government’s Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program, under a joint application with the Region of Durham, the Town of Whitby, the Township of Scugog and Trent University Durham.

“By transitioning Clarington’s fleet to electric vehicles and by providing infrastructure to help the public also make the switch, Clarington is taking an important step to reduce carbon emissions and respond to climate change,” said Clarington Mayor Adrian Foster. “Thank you to the federal government for their support in helping us increase the availability of local charging infrastructure and create a greener Clarington.”

The chargers are municipally owned and operated. You can pay to use the chargers through the ChargeLab app.
