The following statement has been released by Clarington Mayor Adrian Foster, expressing condolences on the death of Queen Elizabeth II. The Queen died at Balmoral Castle in Scotland. She was 96 and the longest reigning monarch in British history.
“On behalf of Council and the Municipality of Clarington, I want to express our deepest condolences to the Royal Family, Britain, and the rest of the Commonwealth on our collective loss. As the longest reigning monarch in British history, the Queen has been a constant presence and the leading figure of our time. Her steadfast commitment to duty, the people, and her work has been a source of admiration and inspiration. All flags in the Municipality have been lowered, and we will be sending an official letter of condolence on behalf of all of Council and the Municipality to the Royal Family. Together we mourn the loss of our Queen.”

Book of condolences
A book of condolence has been placed in the lobby at Town Hall (40 Temperance Street, Bowmanville), Courtice Community Complex and Diane Hamre Recreation Complex for the community to express their sympathy, thoughts and gratitude for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Condolence books will be available until 4:30 p.m. on Monday, September 19, 2022.

Clarington's Town Hall will be illuminated in royal blue each night until September 19 in honour and remembrance of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, recognizing her unwavering commitment to duty, the people, and her work.
