The following statement is released on behalf of Clarington Mayor Adrian Foster.
“I want to take the opportunity to wish you all a happy, healthy and prosperous new year. I know that 2022 will bring renewed hope, opportunity, and potential. As we reflect on the past year and make resolutions for the future, we have a lot to be thankful for and a lot to look forward to.
In Clarington, we will focus on supporting and building a strong local economy in 2022. We will continue to look at opportunities to increase affordable housing and support community health by investing in our recreation amenities. We are also looking forward to key developments in several key industries, including nuclear, with the future deployment of the first of its kind, grid-scale small modular reactor at Ontario Power Generation’s Darlington facility right here in Clarington.
As we ring in the new year tonight, we are all conscious of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the new variant Omicron – responsible for driving Province-wide infection rates. I urge you to be safe, to follow Public Health guidance to limit the spread of this strain. The best way to manage this pandemic is through vaccination and building our immunity. Please consider this course of action as we are all anxious to return to our pre-pandemic life.
I am incredibly proud of our community and the sense of unity we have built through some difficult times. I look forward to a hope-filled 2022 with limitless possibilities. Take care. Be safe. Stay healthy. Happy new year!”
