Clarington, Ontario – The following statement was released by Clarington Mayor Adrian Foster, expressing condolences on the death of Pope Francis. Pope Francis, at age 88, died on Easter Monday.
“The news of the passing of Pope Francis is deeply saddening. On behalf of Council and the Municipality of Clarington, I want to offer our sincere condolences to the Catholic community in Clarington and around the globe.
Pope Francis served the Roman Catholic Church with dedication, exemplifying kindness and steadfast commitment to its best values and ideals. His efforts brought comfort and community to millions of faithful people and earned the respect of religious and secular leaders around the world.
Pope Francis’ legacy as head of the Catholic Church is immeasurable, and many will deeply feel his loss. May his impact continue to inspire hope and bring light to our world.”
