Clarington, Ontario – Enbridge Gas Inc. (Enbridge Gas) is helping Clarington Emergency and Fire Services (CEFS) purchase firefighting training materials through Safe Community Project Assist—a program with the Fire Marshal’s Public Fire Safety Council (FMPFSC) that supplements existing training for Ontario volunteer and composite fire departments in the communities where Enbridge Gas operates.
Councillor Sami Elhajjeh, Ward 1, Clarington; Councillor Lloyd Rang, Ward 2, Clarington; David Speed, Fire Chief and Director of Emergency and Fire Services, Municipality of Clarington; and Matthew Banks, Station Operations Manager, GTA East Operations, Enbridge Gas, were joined by Fire Department staff at Fire Station 1 to celebrate Enbridge Gas’ donation.
Members of Clarington Council, firefighters and an Enbridge Gas representative met at Clarington Fire Station 1 to celebrate Enbridge Gas’ funding support for firefighter training.
“Thank you to Enbridge Gas for supporting our Clarington firefighters in their life-saving work. This additional training will support our dedicated composite Fire Department as they keep our community safe,” said Mayor Adrian Foster.
This year’s $250,000 donation from Enbridge Gas will be shared by 50 Ontario fire departments, including Clarington Emergency and Fire Services. Funds are used to purchase educational materials to assist in training firefighters in life-saving techniques.
“At Enbridge Gas, safety is at the core of what we do. Providing support to Ontario firefighters with emergency response training, we’re equipping the heroes of tomorrow to better protect the communities we live and work in—keeping them healthy and vibrant,” said Banks.
Since the launch of Safe Community Project Assist in 2012, 344 grants have been provided to Ontario fire departments for additional firefighter training.
“Fire departments train every single day and that’s why it’s important for them to have access to the right materials to keep their members and the public safe. Safe Community Project Assist helps departments afford some of these training tools and improves the ongoing learning that occurs across Ontario,” said Jon Pegg, Ontario Fire Marshal and Chair of the FMPFSC.
“We are extremely grateful to Enbridge Gas for their generous support of the services we provide to the Clarington community,” said Dave Speed, Clarington Fire Chief. “The Municipality of Clarington has adopted a continuous improvement culture and CEFS is committed to finding ways to deliver emergency and fire services that are effective and efficient. Funds will be used to purchase educational materials for staff to remain on the leading edge of modern emergency response techniques, and risk management and prevention initiatives in order to prioritize community safety.”
