Ready for the summer - Clarington Tourism has information on all your local community events and attractions
As summer approaches and the pandemic-related restrictions ease, Clarington Tourism is poised to connect visitors and residents with our community, local businesses and events. Through crafted and targeted social media campaigns and advertisements, Clarington Tourism continues to inform, educate and engage visitors, residents and stakeholders on what our community has to offer. In 2021, Clarington Tourism adopted an ambassador toolkit offered by Central Counties Tourism. Staff will use the toolkit as the basis of a made-in-Clarington ambassador program that will be implemented at our community facilities and centres, where residents and visitors can find the hub of all tourism information with our prominent displays. Our knowledgeable staff ambassadors will continue to be trained and provide the first point of contact for residents and visitors wanting to experience Clarington and create lasting memories.

Clarington allocates space for recreation programs in Bowmanville
With the creation of tourism hubs and information displays in Clarington’s community centres, the Municipality is now bringing events and attractions to a central location popular with residents and visitors alike. This has allowed Clarington to temporarily close the Tourism Information Centre while investigating how to repurpose the building for community use. Now, Clarington staff are proposing to use the building and surrounding green space for a variety of recreational programs that are needed to support the growing demand and population in Bowmanville. The outdoor space will be used for a variety of activities throughout June to support Recreation and Parks Month and is an ideal location for the Mobile Playground Program offered by Community Services. Indoors, staff have opened up the building making an open and functional space to support a variety of programs, including preschool, babysitting courses, youth arts night, yoga class, nutrition workshops, and 55 + programs.

Clarington to improve public access to the first portion of the Farewell Creek Trail
Clarington is moving to upgrade access to the Farewell Creek Trail by installing a crushed stone surface to assist residents wanting to access the trail from Darlington Boulevard. This access point, which is the current construction road, is located through private property and will become a more formalized trail entry point in the future. Phase 2A of the Farewell Creek trail extension is nearing completion, and improved access will ensure that residents can use it safely. Meantime, the design work is underway for Phase 2B, the final phase of the trail, with anticipated construction scheduled for 2023 to 2024. Phase 2B of the trail will meander toward Townline Road along Farewell Creek, with a future potential connection to Oshawa’s path on Grandview Street at the Townline Road boundary.
