Council approved the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Region of Durham for the development of a Family Physician Recruitment Program.
Staff were also directed to create an incentive program to attract physicians locally to Clarington medical clinics. There is a shortage of family physicians in this area and across Ontario. The Municipality is working to attract more doctors to Clarington so the growing population can continue to enjoy a high quality of life here.
This is a direct action item from the community-informed 2024-27 Clarington Strategic Plan: to support efforts to improve access to medical practitioners and health care services.
Council received an update about a project to reduce the use of rodenticides at municipal facilities. Following a successful pilot at the Courtice Community Complex, the rodenticide-free program will be expanded to other municipal recreation facilities. Staff were also directed to develop an administrative pest management directive to reduce the use of anti-coagulant rodenticides on all Municipal properties.
Council approved Clarington’s 2024 Asset Management Plan, which will guide the maintenance and management of Municipal assets, now and in the future.
The updated Asset Management Plan outlines the capital costs required to maintain the current service delivery standards of the Municipality’s non-core assets over the next ten years. These assets include Clarington’s community centres, parks, fleet vehicles, sidewalks, parking lots and more.
Clarington’s total asset value—the sum of all taxpayer-owned Municipal infrastructure—is approximately $2.2 billion.
