Clarington has taken an important step toward reconciliation by installing a commemorative orange crosswalk outside of Town Hall, at the corner of Church and Temperance streets.
We invite you to join members of the Indigenous community, municipal staff, and dignitaries at the official unveiling of the Orange Crosswalk on Tuesday, October 4, 2022, at 4 p.m.
A land acknowledgment and offering of Semah (tobacco) will take place at 4 p.m. Afterwards, observe a smudging ceremony (blessing), and listen to personal stories about the impact of the residential school system and remarks from invited guests.
The Orange Crosswalk provides a permanent symbol of our commitment to reconciliation by commemorating the victims and survivors of the residential school system and reminding us about the devastating generational impacts residential schools had and continue to have on the Indigenous community.
