Clarington’s Wayfinding System Strategy receives federal investment

Clarington, Ontario – Clarington is receiving federal funding to develop a wayfinding system, which will support the Municipality’s Active Transportation Master Plan.

With a goal to make Clarington healthier, more connected and more sustainable, the wayfinding system will feature signs, route maps, accessibility information and digital resources that residents and visitors can use to get around Clarington. Once implemented, it will help people travel from historic downtowns to beautiful scenery to their favourite local shop or recreation facility—and guide them back home again. It will also link Clarington residents with broader Durham Region active transportation infrastructure, giving them better opportunities to connect with communities across Durham.

“The Municipality of Clarington is grateful to the Government of Canada for these funds, which will help residents and visitors who enjoy cycling, walking, or rolling through our community,” said Clarington Mayor Adrian Foster. “This investment supports active transportation, helping us create a more accessible and navigable system for Clarington's many attractions.”

The Municipality is receiving $50,000 from Infrastructure Canada’s Active Transportation Fund to develop its Wayfinding System Strategy. The Fund invests in projects to make travel by active transportation easier, safer, more convenient and more enjoyable.

This project is one of 50 active transportation planning and design projects across Ontario with investments of more than $2.3 million that the federal government is supporting through the fund.

Bike paths, sidewalks, footbridges and multi-use trails connect our homes to our communities and beyond, helping to make them the best places to live.”

Clarington’s wayfinding system will help enhance trails and other active transportation infrastructure.

Clarington is a unique and ideal place for active transportation, blending urban amenities with rural charm. The wayfinding system will help users find a route that’s perfect for them—whether they’re walking, cycling, using a mobility device, jogging, skateboarding, rollerblading, scootering, or using another self-propelled method of getting around.
