Clarington, Ontario – Clarington has received a Seniors Community Grant from the Province of Ontario’s Ministry for Seniors and Accessibility. The funding, of up to $18,630, was announced at a special event held today at the Courtice Community Complex, home of Clarington’s 55+ Older Adult Activity Centre.
Through this grant, the Province supports local organizations working to provide greater social inclusion, volunteerism and community engagement for older adults. In Clarington, it will fund a new program called Age Wise – Eat Right, Feel Right, where older adults will learn about nutrition, cooking safety, the benefits of healthy eating and independent living skills through cooking instruction.
“Clarington is fortunate to be home to a vibrant and active older adult community, and we are strengthened by the way residents from all walks of life are included in our municipality,” said Mayor Adrian Foster. “We are grateful to the Province of Ontario for these funds, which will help our 55+ residents connect, learn, thrive, and continue to age well here in Clarington.”
“Our Senior Active Living Centres are an important part of our community here in Clarington,” said Todd McCarthy, MPP for Durham. “They bring seniors and the whole community together with services, activities and programs that make sure our seniors stay connected all year long.”
