Clarington Mayor praises expansion of new nuclear project at Darlington OPG

Clarington, Ontario – Clarington Mayor Adrian Foster has issued the following statement: 

“We are delighted to hear the Government of Ontario and Ontario Power Generation(OPG) announce plans to build three additional small modular reactors (SMR) at the Darlington Nuclear Generating Station.

Work has been underway for years to build Canada’s first SMR at Darlington. Expanding the project from one reactor to four will do even more to build a reliable, affordable, and clean electricity supply and attract more investment in our local economy.

Before today, this project would have delivered enough electricity to power 300,000 homes. With this announcement, a fleet of SMRs in Clarington will create enough electricity to power 1.2 million homes.
