Following a review of emergency response, Clarington Emergency and Fire Services recommending a multi-year approach to prepare for future growth.
Staff in the Emergency and Fire Services Department have drafted a recommendation report for Council consideration at the June 19, 2023, Joint Committee Meeting. The report, which will be publicly available on June 14, looks at several components regarding our current staffing structure, response times, and fire hall capacity. It will provide a roadmap to navigate ongoing community safety considerations both now and into the future.
It is clear from the analysis that investment will be required to maintain and enhance service levels as the Municipality grows. A key takeaway from the review is the need for additional fire hall space and full-time staff. In the coming years, there may be an opportunity to create a new fire hall at the proposed Public Works Depot in North Bowmanville, but further analysis will be required. If a new fire hall is eventually built it would trigger a review of existing facilities, however that is not a recommendation at this time.
It is critical to ensure that we remain prepared and resourced to respond to our residents when they need us most.
