Clarington, Ontario – The Municipality of Clarington is pleased to announce a new payment option for parking in Downtown Bowmanville, allowing visitors to pay with their smartphones. This feature will be in addition to the continued ability to pay by coin and available both on-street and in Municipal parking lots.
“We want to ensure visitors can conveniently and easily access our wonderful downtown stores and restaurants. This new payment method will give residents and visitors more choice and greater convenience when paying for parking,” said Clarington Mayor Adrian Foster.
Clarington has engaged with business owners in the Historic Downtown Bowmanville Business Improvement Area (BIA) to introduce this modern payment option.
“It should be convenient for everyone to park in our downtown. Now, our clients have both parking payment choices, whether through the app or using coins. Not all customers are proficient in using smartphones, and on the other hand, not everyone carries cash these days. Having both options should help simplify the parking process for many of our downtown shoppers,” said Ron Hooper, Chair of the Historic Downtown Bowmanville BIA.
Residents and visitors will notice new signs and parking meter stickers at regular intervals throughout the paid parking zones in downtown Bowmanville, promoting the new payment option. Drivers have the option to download the HotSpot app or use their phone’s camera to scan the QR code.
“We applaud the Municipality of Clarington for offering a new, digital payment option for parking in Downtown Bowmanville while upholding the convenience of coin meters. This decision exemplifies commitment to serving visitors and Clarington’s diverse population, enhancing the experience of shopping and dining downtown,” said Bonnie Wrightman, Manager of Business Development, Clarington Board of Trade.
The new parking app will officially launch on Tuesday, September 5, 2023. Learn more about this new mobile payment option at www.clarington.net/HotSpot.
