Clarington, Ontario – On January 15, Clarington’s 2025 Budget Update was deemed adopted, following Council’s consideration and amendments.
The 2025 Budget Update supports the needs of our growing population while making investments to support the delivery of Clarington’s 2024-27 Strategic Plan. This includes capital investments in infrastructure to support the delivery of the recently approved Parks, Recreation, and Culture Master Plan, including breaking ground on the new South Bowmanville Recreation Centre, upgrades to parks, trails and roads across the municipality, the addition of an outdoor skating rink at the Diane Hamre Recreation Complex in Newcastle, and more. Other notable projects for 2025 include the addition of library vending machines throughout the community, rural road resurfacing, and a new Operations Depot, Fire Station and Training Centre.
The 2025 Budget Update also includes amendments to the 2024-27 Multi-Year Operating Budget, to adapt to a changing environment. This includes recent changes in Provincial legislation (Bills 23 and 185) that have made a significant financial impact on municipal service delivery, including the download of some Planning services.
“This is a proactive budget update that will help move Clarington forward. We’ve kept our streak of having some of the lowest property taxes in Durham Region, while planning to break ground on the new South Bowmanville Recreation Centre, build a new Operations Depot, Fire Station and Training Centre, grow responsibly and maintain the high quality of life we enjoy here,” said Clarington Mayor Adrian Foster. “I want to thank Council and Staff for their diligent work in keeping a close eye on the budget while working to improve services.”
The Budget includes a net levy increase that will result in an increase of about $93 per year for Clarington’s portion of an average household’s property tax bill, or about $7.78 per month. Clarington’s portion of your tax bill is 33 per cent; 50 per cent of the property taxes you pay go to the Region of Durham, and the remainder funds education.
