Clarington, Ontario – The Municipality of Clarington supports the local school board’s funding request to the Ministry of Education for a new Kindergarten-to-Grade 12 school in Newcastle.
Due to over-capacity issues at the elementary school in Newcastle, the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board has decided to move younger students to Pines Senior Public School on Highway 35/115.

Statement from Mayor Adrian Foster on Clarington’s commitment to diversity:
I am saddened and deeply disappointed by an incident of intolerance which involved a copy of the Quran, the Islamic sacred book, being deliberately destroyed at a local school.
I understand that the incident is being taken exceptionally seriously and investigated by the school board, which will take the appropriate next steps.
However, I want to state clearly that religious and racial intolerance has no place in Clarington....
