Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham would like to remind residents of the upcoming municipal election taking place on Monday, October 24. All eligible electors in Durham Region will have the opportunity to elect a Regional Chair, via general vote.

Starting the week of April 15, the Municipality of Clarington will begin to demolish the former Newcastle Fire Hall, located at 247 King Street East, to prepare the land for future sale. The building was decommissioned in 2014 when the new Alfred Alldread Fire Station opened on Highway 2 in Newcastle. The site was also used as a temporary location for GO Transit buses to turn around. Metrolinx has since rerouted its buses through Newcastle using Edward Street.

Following regulations set out by the Province in its roadmap to reopen, Clarington is lifting more COVID-19 facility entry requirements as we turn the corner and begin to return to regular operations. Starting on March 1, residents and patrons entering a Clarington facility will no longer have to show the enhanced proof of vaccination or fill out the online COVID-19 screening. This is consistent with the Provincial mandate lifting more public health restrictions as public health indicators improve.
